The A628 Woodhead Pass is due to close in both directions for two separate two-day periods as part of ongoing repair work.

Glossop SNT - Road Closure at Woodhead Pass - On 2 dates (see below) 

The road will be closed: 

🔷 From 12.01am on Monday 10th August until 6am on Wednesday 12th August 

🔷 From 12.01am on Monday 24th August until 6am on Wednesday 26th August 

Clearly signed diversion routes will be in place throughout both closures. 

National Highways says the closures are needed to allow work to continue on the Woodhead Cascade repairs, with a large crane required to carry out the next phase of the project. 

The repairs have so far been carried out using daytime temporary traffic lights. National Highways had originally planned to complete this stage of the work during weekend closures but said the programme had been changed in response to concerns raised during the project.  

A spokesperson said the full closures are necessary because the crane needed for the repairs will occupy the entire carriageway, making it impossible for traffic to pass. 

The Woodhead Cascade repair scheme is expected to continue until December 2026.
